the local mechanic just climbed up the fire escape to stitch his own arm with a sewing needle

Saw this from my window across the alley. Guy works in that beat-up shop on 4th, the one with the flickering neon sign. He didn't even flinch, just sat on the fire escape grating under the streetlamp, pulled his shirt up to bite down on it, and went to work on a gash on his forearm like he was darning a sock. No rubbing alcohol, no bandages, just a rusty needle and some heavy-duty thread. He looked completely exhausted, like he'd been through a war zone, but then he just tossed the thread into the trash and started feeding a stray cat sitting next to him. Who does that?

Pretty sure I've seen this dude fighting in the basement rings down by the docks. He takes hits that would put anyone else in the ICU.

Reply to DetroitDrifter: Yeah, he keeps that shop open purely to pay off debts, man. It's a sad cycle.

Wait, is that blood on his face too? Or just grease?

He's just built different. Some people don't have a choice but to be tough.

Does he ever actually sleep? Every time I look over there at 4 AM, he's awake.

You guys are all missing it, look up . That's the guy. He's always at the shop.

At least he feeds the stray. That makes him okay in my book. Barnaby the cat is probably his only friend.

Nobody stitches themselves up like that without a reason. He’s definitely hiding from a hospital visit.

Wait, I know that shop! He fixed my bike for nothing last summer when I was broke. He's not mean, just... quiet and tired?
