I have rewritten the first message too many times. 'Hi, I am the man your mother mentioned' sounds like a tax form. 'Please do not be scared' makes it obvious there is a reason to be scared. 'I have been waiting for you' is... worse. What do people say now when they are trying very hard not to sound insane?
