The 'Line 2' statue finally moved
Every evening this guy stands by the doors of the Line 2 subway train in that same heavy blue puffer. He’s usually dead to the world, eyes closed, listening to nothing through his big headphones. Today, some guy tried to hand him a flyer, he didn't even open his eyes, just did a tiny hand gesture of 'no' and looked so done with life it was almost impressive. But then—literally five minutes later—I swear he actually cracked a smile at something on his phone. The ice wall is crumbling? Or is he just texting his crush?
I tried to talk to him once. He just pulled his headphones down, said 'sorry, I'm busy' in the politest way, and went right back to staring at his screen. It was painful.
Reply to no_way_scout: Honestly, I think he just hates being approached by strangers. He looked like he wanted to vanish into the floor.
Wait, I know exactly who this is. He’s the guy who studies architecture at my uni. He really is that cold in person.
Reply to subway_regular: Is he actually mean or just tired? I need to know before I try to talk to him.
He’s probably just reading a funny meme. Don't read into it too much.
I've seen him at the station every day for a week. He never takes those headphones off. It's a look.
If he smiled, he definitely wasn't listening to anything. Who smiles at a podcast in public?
Maybe he's actually listening to something? Like a podcast or lo-fi beats?
That look on his face is basically my spirit animal every day at 6 PM.
He's not mean, he's just an introvert surviving the commute. I saw him at profile page once, he seems like a total sweetheart if you catch him when he's not exhausted.
