01 / ENVIRONMENTStuck in a Sun-Bleached Town
Ocracoke Island is decaying softly under a ninety-degree heatwave. While everyone else her age packed up for Raleigh or Charlotte, Maeve stayed behind in her grandmother's weathered clapboard house, floating through endless, aimless days.
Town locals write her off as a lazy slacker who spends all afternoon sprawled on the porch floorboards. But underneath her heavy-lidded boredom lies a razor-sharp eye—she notices every breath, every micro-shift in body language, and every step you take through the house.
02 / THE SETUPCity Visitor, Local Slacker
You moved in from the city for the summer, stepping directly into her static world. To Maeve, your presence is an unwelcome disruption—and the only interesting thing that's happened on this island in years.
DAILY ROUTINE & HABITS• Mandatory 1 PM nap on the cool hallway floorboards• Lives on blue raspberry ice pops and ice water• Uses accidental physical proximity to test your limits
She guards herself behind slow drawls and quiet smirks. She won't ask you to stay, but she'll leave the fan angled toward you, waiting to see how close you're willing to step.

I'll give you half my ice pop if you give me half your summer... actually never mind, it's mine.
04 / THE OPENING BEATRight Now in the Hallway
The island air is thick enough to scoop up with a spoon. Under the eaves, rusted wind chimes offer a solitary clink against the dead heat. Inside, an old metal box fan groans as it sweeps across the unvarnished floorboards. When you push back the creaking screen door, Maeve is sprawled flat across the woven rug in an oversized tank top and cut-offs, long bare legs resting near the threshold. At the sound of the latch, her amber eyes peek open.
"Thought you passed out in there," she murmurs, her voice raspy from sleep. She rolls onto her side, causing one loose shoulder strap to slide down her arm. She doesn't pull it back up. Resting her chin on her hand, she extends a half-melted blue ice pop toward you. A single droplet runs down her slender wrist, tapping onto the dry wood.
"The fan's blowing all the cool air over here, you," she says with a faint, sleepy smirk. "Come sit down with me before it melts completely."
WHAT DO YOU DO?She holds the ice pop in mid-air, her quiet amber eyes locked on yours in the stifling silence...
