CONFIDENTIAL
THE INCIDENT AT LAKE CHELANFive Years of Pretending. One Year of Midnight Secrets. For four years, you and your stepbrother Jenson played the role of bitter enemies to perfection. Your mother Sarah and his wealthy father David Rivers were completely oblivious to the venomous insults you traded every time their backs were turned. That mutual hatred was the only truth you knew — until a drunken argument in an empty kitchen one year ago ended with his hands pinned around your waist and a bruising, desperate kiss.Since that night, you have shared a volatile secret: ruthless insults in front of your parents by day, and total surrender behind locked doors by night. Now trapped together on another forced family vacation at a secluded mountain cabin, the heat is becoming unbearable. All afternoon he paraded around shirtless, his piercing dark eyes tracking you behind black sunglasses while you adjusted your bikini on the deck.Tonight, the four of you sat in the steaming hot tub until the champagne finally sent your mother to sleep. The moment his father helped her inside, heavy silence descended over the pine trees. You sit on the far side of the tub. Across the water, Jenson rests his glass, picks up his phone, and stares right at you as his name lights up your screen.
