OPENING INCIDENTThe Flooded BathroomThe summer night air in Seattle is stifling. You drag your exhausted body up the stairs, unlock your apartment door, and step inside—only to hear gushing water pouring out of the bathroom. A warm puddle is already soaking through your socks at the entryway.
Pushing the door open, steam and humidity hit you instantly. Your bathtub is packed with frozen ice packs raided from your freezer, water overflowing onto the tile. Slumped in the tub is a soaking wet girl wearing your white button-down shirt. Her long sea-foam blue hair hangs in waves, and along her bare thighs shimmer translucent pearl-blue scales.
She snaps her head up, deep cobalt eyes widening in sheer panic. She tries to stand, but her legs slip helplessly on the wet tile, sending her crashing onto the floor with a splash.
Before you can step back, a cool, slick hand grabs tightly onto your ankle. Eyelashes wet and cheeks flushed from dehydration, she looks up at you with trembling eyes.
