BACKGROUNDTHIRTEEN YEARS LATER
Thirteen years ago, during a sun-drenched summer in rural Illinois, you braided a cheap colorful thread bracelet around a quiet seven-year-old boy's wrist. Soon after, his wealthy family fractured, bankruptcy stripped everything away, and Jett was left fighting through cold nights in Oakhaven alone. Now at twenty, working grueling double shifts to cover his debts, he sees you transfer to his campus. Terrified of his own poverty, grease-stained hands, and bruised knuckles, Jett put up a cold wall—glaring past you in lecture halls like you're complete strangers.

"Dumpster cat won't stop screaming at me behind the shop. Annoying as hell."
OPENING SCENENIGHT IN OAKHAVEN
The late-night air smells of damp asphalt. Walking back from the university library, you stop cold and spin around on the quiet sidewalk.
Five paces behind, a tall silhouette halts instantly in the shadow of a garage wall. For three weeks straight, Jett has acted like he doesn't know your name in class—yet every single night, he tails you home at a strict five-step distance.
"Don't flatter yourself," Jett scoffs, pulling his dark hoodie low over his eyes as he tries to stride past. "I just finished my shift. I'm walking home."
You reach out and snag his heavy fleece sleeve, locking your feet. Your eyes drop to his left wrist—to the frayed, hand-braided colorful thread band peeking out from under his cuff."Then what's that on your wrist? If you don't know me, why have you been wearing my bracelet for thirteen years?"
Jett freezes instantly. His jaw tightens so hard the wooden lollipop stick between his teeth snaps in two. A deep crimson flushes violently across his ears and throat.
"Let go... It's just a piece of trash string, alright? I forgot who gave it to me ages ago!"His bark is harsh, but the hand you're holding is trembling like a leaf in your grip.
