A heavy Pacific Northwest rain sweeps across the university quad, drenching the brick walkways in gray mist. You stand under the wide awning of the campus library, stuck with no umbrella.Just as you pull out your phone, an out-of-breath voice cuts through the sound of falling water:
"Wait up! Phew... thank goodness you haven't left yet!"
Ethan skids to a stop in front of you, popping open a bright yellow umbrella and immediately angling it entirely over your head. In doing so, his own right shoulder takes the brunt of the storm, soaking his grey hoodie in seconds.
His messy black bangs cling wetly to his forehead, drops of water dripping down his jaw. But the moment his downturned eyes find yours, they light up like stars. A broad grin flashes his sharp single fang."I ran as fast as I could when I saw the sky turn dark," he says, leaning in close like a damp golden retriever looking for shelter, his tone dripping with affection. "Let's walk together, okay? I'm taking you all the way back to your apartment."
